What to Do For Your IRemen Arm Examination

In my first post I described what an IRemen is and I mentioned the type of exam I had and a few things I had to do before my test. The IRemen is a routine test that your doctor gives to you each year as part of your annual physical.

What the IRemen actually does is a series of X-rays to measure blood flow in your arms. These X-rays are then sent off to be read by a specialist doctor who will examine your arm for any abnormalities or issues. You can have a normal, healthy arm. Or your arm could be too small or too big. Or it could even be twisted.

A normal X-rays of your arm will show some fairly obvious things. The X-ray shows if your arm is bent to one side or another and if it is twisted. If it is twisted then your doctor is looking for bone abnormalities in your arm.

When you go to the doctor to get the X-rays done they will be looking for blood flow in the arm. In other words they are checking for fractures. If they see blood in the X-rays they will tell you the doctor has a concern about a fracture.

The IRemen will also look for abnormal growths on the bones or tissues of the arm. Usually these growths will be painless and if you have them you will be given pain relief. But if the growths do cause pain you will have to get them removed.

An arm fracture is not a common fracture but it can happen. It is rare, but it can happen. The doctor will order an X-ray to look for evidence of a fracture in your arm. If the X-ray shows evidence of a fracture then your doctor will want to do an MRI of your arm.

If you have an injury to your arm then your doctor might give you instructions to rest your arm or take it off for a while. He may even tell you to wear a splint while you rest your arm or take it off temporarily.

When you go for your IRemen arm examination you will likely have to rest your arm for at least a few days after you go in for the exam. If the doctor thinks there are some concerns then he will tell you to go back to the doctor a few days later.

During your IRemen arm examination you will need to lie down on a table. Then you will have to close your eyes. The doctor may ask you to stay still for the duration of the exam. He will have the medical equipment ready for when you open your eyes.

Your doctor will be doing this so he can keep track of your movements. The equipment will include a camera and a wand. that has a magnifying lens and a digital camera.

Once he has all this equipment he will place a small ultrasound probe onto your arm. As your arm is turned towards him, he will use the wand to create an image of the inside of your arm.

The ultrasound probe will be looking for signs of fractures or injuries in your arm. When the doctor looks at the images from this instrument, he will write down any fractures he sees on a chart.

After the IRemen arm examination you will be given instructions on how you can take care of the broken part of your arm. You will probably be told to apply ice to it, use an ice pack or you might have to seek out a specialist who is trained in this type of surgery. You will be told to rest it for the time being.
